It’s a FACT: The Circumhorizontal Rainbow


It was gone by the time I got home from walking the dogs this afternoon,  so I didn’t get a photo of it, but this looks almost exactly like what I saw. It’s an optical phenomenon sometimes known as an ice-halo. Looks like a round rainbow spot.  Took me a while to figure out what it was, because I’d never seen one before.  It’s  formed by plate-shaped ice crystals in high level cirrus clouds.  Cool.
