The Chill is On

Yup, that’s a photo of the first snow on the local hills here in Boise, a sign of the season to come.  The first snow of the season usually arrives sometime in October.  Several mornings this week, the temperatures were below freezing and since I haven’t acquired sufficient  antifreeze in my veins yet, walking the dogs has been a might nippy.  The grapevines covering my arbor wilted and died this week, and most of the maple trees along my street have already shed their leaves.

On the other hand the chilly temps and precipitation brought our air quality back into the ‘breathable’ category.  I think all that smoke from the fires this summer choked the leaves right off the trees.  I turned off the air conditioning just last week, and I’ve already had to turn on the furnace.  There’s been a fire in the fireplace every night this week.  I think it’s going to be a long winter…
